Surfingin Mirissa

Originally a fishing village, Mirissa has quickly become one of the go-to beach destinations for tourists. The area is popular for surfing, as the sand-bottomed wave breaks are safe for the beginner and allows intermediate surfers to hone their skills. The best waves can be experienced early morning and in the late afternoon. The location of the point between rocks and a hill means that the waves are seldom affected by on-shore winds. Mirissa also has a beach break ideal for boogie boarders.

Just like any other southern coastal destination in the island, the season for water sports generally run from November to April. Many intermediate level surf competitions are held here during this time. You can easily rent surf boards here, and even get some lessons from a local surfer.
