Beruwala (Southwest Coast)

The currents are strong in Beruwala. And when there is current, there is fish! The dive sites are a half hour boat ride away from the show. The magnificent rock formations allow for an amazing observation of marine life. When there’s good visibility, the water is known to be clear, allowing the sunlight to stream right down to 30 meters. While the dive sites are deeper than 20 meters, if you’re lucky, during the season, whales and sharks can be spotted.

Unwatuna (South Coast)

Unawatuna is famous for having ten coral reef diving spots. You can go as deep as 30 meters, and discover a variety of coral reefs, shipwrecks, and a handful of marine life including sea turtles. For more experienced divers, there are a few wrecks including the Ralagala wreck, the Galle Shipwreck and some underwater caves between Unawatuna and Galle.

Trincomalee/Nilaveli (East Coast)

Trincomalee is known to offer a different experience from other diving sites due to its proximity to the Pigeon Island marine life sanctuary. The protected area has diverse coral reefs, a variety of fish, anemones, and nudibranch. The shipwreck Irakkandi lies off the coast of Trincomalee, which adds extra zest to your diving experience.

At Nilaveli, dive sites are rather shallow (10 to 20 meters) while the ocean right in front of Trincomalee is a little deeper (12 to 35 meters) and therefore is suitable for beginners and advanced divers.
