Providing breath-taking views of Sri Lanka’s central highlands, the Ella Rock should definitely be on your must-visit list. The hike up the mountain is not an easy feat, but the view at the top is considered to be well worth the effort.
There are reportedly many routes to get to the summit of Ella Rock, some of which are more arduous than others. Therefore, it is advisable to embark on the trek with a local guide. The climb up the mountain is pretty steep at certain points and can be pretty exhausting. Make sure you are attired in proper clothes and shoes, and don’t forget to carry water with you.
The ideal time to head up the mountain is early morning (around 3:30 AM), as you would be able to witness the sunrise from the summit. It is a pretty magical experience! The entire trek should take you approximately four hours. It may seem like a long journey, but there is enough to see along the way as you trek past waterfalls, and through rubber and tea plantations.
