Culture & History

The Ravana Ella waterfall, Ravana Cave, and the Dhowa Raja Maha Viharaya are all deeply entrenched in the island’s history and culture and are well worth a visit if you have got the time. The Ravana Ella waterfall is lovely to see, even if you are not too interested in its historic significance. The historic Nine Arch Bridge is also a great place to visit while you are in Ella.

Hiking

Experience adventure with your significant other by climbing the many mountains in Ella. The Little Adam’s Peak is a relatively easier climb that provides stunning vistas of the hill-country. Should you be willing to take it up a notch, trek through the jungle terrain to the summit of the Ella Rock, and experience a stunning view of the early morning sunrise.

Zip Lining

If you are the type of couple who are adrenaline junkies, then you should definitely try out the zip line in Ella. Soar through the air, 82metres above ground level at a speed of 80kmh, while you appreciate the natural beauty of Sri Lanka’s highlands.

Leisure

With several guesthouses, great cafés and restaurants, Ella is not all about the outdoors. Enjoy some great food and signature Sri Lankan hospitality when you visit the many food and beverage spots in Ella. You could also meet and connect with fellow travellers while you enjoy some live music and sample scrumptious Sri Lankan cuisine.

  • If you are sightseeing around the town, opt to walk instead of taking a tuk-tuk or bus, since the views can be admired better on foot.
