Sightseeing

Culture

The Ravana Ella waterfall and the Ravana Cave are believed to be key locations from the epic legend of the Ramayana. Similarly, the Dhowa Raja Maha Viharaya is another intriguing attraction that links to the reign of King Walagamba, who had to drive out South Indian invaders from the ancient Anuradhapura Kingdom.

Hiking

Should you and your family be looking for a bit of adventure, Ella is a great place for mountain treks. Chief of these is Little Adam’s Peak, as it not a difficult trek, and can be enjoyed by younger kids too. Arrive at the summit, and you will be rewarded with some of the most picturesque views of the surrounding landscape.

If you are looking for a more challenging climb, then take your family through the jungle pathways of Ella Rock. Considered to be the more difficult out of the two, the hike to the summit of Ella Rock will take you through some dense jungles and streams. What makes this an enticing hike is the beautiful view, especially during the morning sunrise.

Leisure

If you are looking for some down time, after an arduous climb up one of the mountains, the town of Ella is full of cafes and restaurants, complete with live music, great food, and a pretty cosy atmosphere.
